The Cathedral of St. Michael the Archangel invites you into the deepening shadows of Tenebrae on Good Friday, April 3, at 7:30 p.m.
In this ancient and hauntingly beautiful liturgy, light yields to darkness as candles are slowly extinguished and the story of Christ’s Passion unfolds. Through solemn chant, sacred Scripture, and powerful choral works, we walk the final steps of our Lord’s earthly journey — from betrayal and suffering to the stillness of the tomb.
The Cathedral Choir, joined by a string quartet of gifted local musicians, will give voice to music of profound sorrow and luminous hope, allowing the mystery of the Cross to speak in sound and silence alike.
There is no admission charge. A freewill offering may be made at the conclusion of the service to support the Cathedral Choir Endowment and the continuing restoration of the Cathedral’s historic 1928 Casavant Frères pipe organ. Come and keep watch in the gathering darkness.
