    Talk about the heroic priest paratrooper, Fr. Ignatius Maternowski
    Holyoke native, Fr. Ignatius Maternowski, a Franciscan chaplain, parachuted into German-occupied Normandy, France, with the 82nd Airborne Division of the US Army in the pre-dawn hours of D-Day, June 6, 1944. A few hours later, while caring for the wounded, he was shot to death by an enemy sniper. Fr. James McCurry, OFM Conv., upon his return from this year’s commemorative ceremonies in Normandy honoring Fr. Maternowski, will give a talk about the heroic priest paratrooper. The event will take place on Thursday, June 11, at 6:30 pm in Our Lady of the Cross Church, Holyoke. The church is located on Holy Cross Ave. All are welcome to attend this informative presentation on Fr. Maternowski. There is no cost for this event.     Mary Farm, the headquarters of the Apostolate of the Suffering, in Palmer, MA will celebrate its annual “Day of Retreat” on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at its location along Route 32 in Palmer from 9:00am to 3:00pm. This year’s theme is: “Faith, Suffering, Healing: Where Are You in Your Walk?” Registration begins at 9:00 am and includes coffee and pastries. Confessions will be available between 9:00 and 11:00. At 10:00 there will be recitation of a Patriotic Holy Rosary followed by the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass at 11:00 to be celebrated by Father Joel Philip. Prior to lunch at noon, the group will recite the Angelus and then enjoy their own brown bag lunch. Father James McCurry, OFM, international retreat master and author will be the Guest Speaker at 1:00. Both Fathers Philip and McCurry promise to bring meaningful spiritual insights to those at different stages along the continuum of life.
